Jeffrey L. Koenig joined Hecht, Kleeger & Damashek in 2011 with nearly a decade of legal experience and a desire to get involved in the complex litigation that is the firm’s trademark.
After receiving his undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin in 1999, Koenig enrolled at Yeshiva University’s Cardozo School of Law and obtained his J.D. in 2002. While in law school, he worked at the Bet Tzedek Legal Services Clinic, where he got his first taste of providing legal assistance to people in need. He realized that’s what he wanted to do in his professional life.
Jeffrey launched his legal career working in a medical malpractice insurance-defense firm for two years, gaining valuable experience before leaving to begin his career as a plaintiff’s personal injury attorney. As a plaintiff’s attorney, Koenig handled several catastrophic injury cases. One of the cases in which he was involved stemmed from a construction site injury and culminated in a 2008 federal court verdict that was the highest of its kind in the state that year. It is that type of large, complex case that he relishes.
Aware of Hecht, Kleeger & Damashek’s reputation for handling large catastrophic injury cases, he joined the firm when the opportunity arose because “I wanted to surround myself with well-credentialed, very experienced trial attorneys.”
His practice in the firm focuses solely on personal injury cases involving motor-vehicle collisions, premises liability, and labor-law cases involving workplace injuries. He particularly enjoys cases that are handled in federal court because the judges and magistrates at that level are more apt to move processes along at a faster pace.
“It’s a good place to be when, like us, you want to move your cases efficiently and get a fair result for your client,” he says.
Speedy resolutions are oftentimes critically important to clients and Koenig strives to provide that whenever possible.
“What I really love about my work is helping out the clients,” he says. “They come in and consult when it’s usually a pretty dark period in their lives—usually a big injury and lots of problems stemming from the injury—and I’m able to guide them through the process and ultimately to a resolution that helps them get back on track with their lives.”
